ChipWrights' CW5631 SoC Selected as Video DSP in Video Surveillance Camera

June 17, 2010

CCTV Giant Dedicated Micros has selected the CW5631 System-on-Chip (SoC) as the video DSP for its CamVu Mini-Dome IP Cameras.

“Dedicated Micros is committed to remaining at the forefront of surveillance technology, which is why we selected ChipWrights’ CW5631 SoC as the video DSP in our CamVu IP cameras,” said Pauline Norstrom, Director of Worldwide Marketing for Dedicated Micros, an industry leader in video surveillance equipment.

The CamVu Dome Cameras are high specification solutions, which integrate many market leading features available in the CW5631 SoC, such as Integrated Camera Recording (ICR), video analytics, and multi-streaming programmable CODEC architecture. The CW5631 SoC enables the cameras to transmit multiple simultaneous MPEG-4 and/or JPEG images to networked devices for viewing and recording. Each stream can be tailored to suit the viewer’s available bandwidth.

“With the CW5631 SoC, Dedicated Micros will maximize their return on investment," said Cary Robins, ChipWrights' President. "The CW5631 SoC’s powerful ViSP engine supports a wide variety of camera features on a single platform, allowing Dedicated Micros to expand on this platform in future generations of their breakthrough product,” added Robins.

The low-cost, low power and wide variety of I/O options make the CW5631 well suited to IP camera applications. The software programmability allows customers to add significant high-value features to their product. The CW5631 is a DSP-based SoC designed for multi-purpose applications that require high-speed digital imaging processing, small size, and low power consumption.

The CW5631 offers an alternative to fixed function devices in imaging applications. It is optimized to handle large volumes of streaming data while providing a scalable and programmable platform. The CW5631 SoC enables developers to design premium embedded multimedia applications at a very low cost.
